Jacqueline Varsey, lyric dramatic soprano, is an award winning graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.  She has been a soloist for many of the UK's opera companies, including English National Opera, Opera Holland Park, English Touring Opera, D'Oyly Carte and has toured in Europe, UK, Japan and USA.

 

Roles include: Jenufa, Katya Kabanova, La Wally, Elisabeth (Don Carlo), Amelia (Ballo in Maschera), Tosca, Madame  Butterfly, Elisabeth (Tannhäuser) and Miss Jessel (Turn of the Screw).  

In contemporary Opera Jacqueline has sung the role of Goneril in Alexander Goehr's Promised End premiered at the Linbury Theatre, London.  She also created the role of L'Apparizione in Bonetti Amendola's Pergolesi: L'Apparizione e Mito premiered at the Jesi Festival (Italy). She performed of New Ofglen in A Handmaid's Tale for ENO at the Coliseum, London and 'Soprano' in Stephen Oliver's A Man of Feeling' at the Batignano Festival (Italy). She has also performed works for ROH2, Opera Genesis and ENO works at the Lindbury and Sadler's Wells Theatres in London and at the Brighton Festival.

On the concert Platform Jacqueline sang the role of ADC de Murat (War and Peace) with Eno at the BBC Proms and has sung Mendelsshon's Elijah; Poulenc's Gloria; Rossini's Stabat Mater and Petite Messe Solennelle; Haydn's Creation; Mozart's Mass in C minor and Vivaldi's Gloria.  She has also performed a staged version of Frauen Lieben und Leben at the Batignano Festival.  She has also broadcast on BBC radio 2 and 3.

Jacqueline started her career as a mezzo and sang the roles of: Cherubino, Rosina, Cenerentola and Carmen. She then moved into soprano repertoire and performed the roles of Gretel (Hansel and Gretel) - Garden Opera; Adele (Die Fledermaus) - Holland Park Opera and on tour in the USA; Yum Yum (Mikado), and Juliette (Count of Luxemburg)  both for the D'Oyly Carte. As her voice developed she sang Mimi (La Boheme) - Holland Park Opera;  Madame Butterfly - Opera South and Crystal Clear Opera; Nedda (Pagliacci) - Central Festival Opera and Nella (Gianni Schicchi) for ETO. 

Recent appearances include Gerhilde (Die Walküre) with London Opera Company and the roles of Chrysothemis and Fifth Maid for Dramatic Voices Berlin in addition to live-streamed concerts for World Harmony Orchestra's concert series.
